Climate and the left, it’s a match! Of course, there was something about right-wing ideas in the early days of the environmental movement. But now everything is fine, isn’t it? Unfortunately not.
A closer look into climate and environmental movements uncovers multiple dimensions of right-wing and inhuman ideologies: people drifting into esoterism, the idea that the environmental problem is actually an overpopulation problem or the view that only the climate not people count. And is it really mainly the society, but not the climate movement, that has a racism problem? When you look at the politics of of supposedly green parties, any demarcation from the right is gone.
At the same time, right-wing parties and actors clearly use Nature conservation for their agendas or they generally neglect climate change. The perfidious phrase “climate protection is homeland security” reveals this more than enough.
This event series asks to which extent the climate movement carries right-wing and regressive ideologies or reproduces them. Because just saying no to right-wing tendencies is not enough. Based on this, we will discuss where the climate justice movement needs to position itself more clearly and become more active.
